Finding a Good Rodeo Rope
Ropers know it is important to get a good rope to perform their best. If you are just starting out with roping, be sure to test out a few different ropes. You want to be sure to find one that works well with you.

There are a few different varieties of ropes. They all have differing lengths, strands, etc. The two biggest styles are 3-strand ropes and 4-strand ropes.

Both ropes have a different feel. 3-strand ropes only have three strands round around each other, so they will be looser than 4-strand ropes. 4-strand ropes have smaller ridges in between the strands, so they have a tighter feel.

Test out different strands before deciding on a rope. Find one that works well for you and that you feel comfortable with. The main thing when looking for ropes is to find one that feels right to you.

A good beginning 3-strand rodeo rope are the ropes by Fast Back: Mach III or Mach III Plus. Mach III is a rope that is a little longer than average rodeo ropes. This makes it easier to reach steers.

There are a also other 4-strand rodeo ropes. The Instinct is a fast, lightweight rope that is easy to maneuver. Another good choice is the Ultimate 4.

Find a rodeo rope that has a lot of body to it. You also want one that has a lot of tip to it, especially if you are a heeler. Heelers often find rodeo ropes that have bright colors that stand out so they can see their loops easier.

Find a sturdy rope that is dependable. You don't want to buy a rope that will start unraveling after only a few throws. Weather will also effect the quality of the rope and how it performs, so take that in to account as well so you make sure you buy the right rope for your climate.
