HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR WESTERN SADDLE
By Ron Caldwell – “THE TACKGUY”

If your Western Saddle is an important part of your life, work or fun, you want to extend its life as long as you can. There are many ways to do just that. Some of your saddles might even be passed down from generation to generation and now it is your turn to handle it with care so you can pass it down too.

Follow these few tips of caring for your saddle to make it last longer:

You should never wrap your saddle in anything like plastic bags or even airtight containers. You want the leather to be able to breathe.

Always keep your saddle clean.

If your saddle gets wet make sure that you only air dry it.

To keep your saddle from drying and possibly cracking, you always want to keep it conditioned. Condition your saddle only with light oil; never use silicone, or any type of waxes.

Keep your saddle away from any bad humidity or mildew.

You can clean leather but only with that which is approved as a leather cleaner. Never use any household cleaners.

Known your saddle. Check it regularly for any breaks, major wear or cracks. Do this with the lining as well.

You want to keep the shape of your saddle. Do so by only using a rail or a saddle rack.

Keep dust off your saddle by covering it with a saddle cover, blanket, or cloth.

If you really want to make your saddle last use these tips for sure success.
